What vacation?????

So I get to take my boards on Thursday and I thought it might be nice to schedule them after a nice relaxing camping trip to Utah. YEAH RIGHT! Let me tell ya bout the vacation from ......

Not so nice words should be mentioned but you know... Anyway

So every year we go up to Duck Creek, Utah for a fun filled week of games, the boys getting dirty and fishing. This year was to be no exception. Determined to have fun I packed the car up a day in advance. I was so excited to go fish and play all day long. Like this....
Trouble started the day before we left around 1pm. My niece and cousin are over and Tyler is extremely lethargic on the couch. At first I thought he was just tired but then as i took a closer look he was quite flushed. I took his temp and sure enough it was 102.6. I immediately think ear infection and I call and get him an appointment right away. After my niece and cousin are picked up I take Tyler down and after waiting an hour and much to my sadness Tyler is diagnosed with Strept throat. The doctor assures us that after 24 hrs he will be fine and not contagious and to go on our trip. So the next day we go. Tyler had a fever off and on the next day and the following day as he lays in the tent for naptime I notice his cheek twitching. I check his temperature and it is 103.1. Keep in mind the nearest medical facility is cedar city which is 30 minutes away so if he had a seizure I dont know what I would have done. It had been past 24 hrs. What was going on.We gave him motrin, it finally goes down and then comes back up a few hours later. It is then that Tyler refuses to take any medications. Not his amoxicillin not Tylenol not Motrin. We put it in his mouth he screamed bloody murder and spit it back out. Nothing was working and by night time Kenny and I broke down. We were ready to get in the car and go but were so emotional because Zachary didnt want to leave. My mother in law kept saying she would keep Zachary but I am not willing to leave my child that far away for that long yet. We explained to Zach what was going on and he tried to be understanding as much as a 4 yr old can be. We decided to wait the night see what happened in the morning. 1:30 am. Tyler babbles something in his sleep and continues to do so for the next two hours. At 330am I check him he is back up to 101 degrees. Everyone is sleeping in tents around us. We have to give him his meds but he just screams. We finally give up. Kenny took him out to the car and we gave him his meds so no one could hear us and then I packed up the car (in the dark) and we came home.

Interesting part of this whole story and Kenny I think something more inspired was at work here but we get 3/4th of the way home and it dawns on me that my son is a heavy drinker. He loves liquid and I remembered reading that amoxicillin could be given with Milk or formula. When we got home we put his meds in his milk and sure enough he has had no problems taking that med.

His Fever reducers are a different story. After my shower I helped Kenny give them to him and got another little shower of wonderful grape flavored medicine. We then discovered that it could be given in grape juice.

The best part of this story. We are home. Tyler is acting 75% better. Smiles. Laughs, talks. Kenny and I think that maybe I was supposed to be home to focus more on my studies before my big exam or for even something different because I remembered the milk factor when we were almost home out of the blue and as soon as we stepped in the door he was 75% better.

So here are the lame few pictures I took in Utah. Dont laugh they are bad.

Thats right I only got two. The rest of the time Tyler was screaming or I was fishing. I did get to do a little of that. I am grateful for how much Kenny was able to allow me to do on this trip. He took the grunt of the screaming and sadness and terribleness of this trip so that i could be somewhat relaxed on this trip. At least he tried. He is the best.
